GREEN SPIRIT

Our commitment to sustainability

OUR GREEN MISSION

We are constantly changing and evaluating our manufacturing processes toward more efficient, wasteless and eco-friendly solutions.

ECO GUIDELINES

ORIGIN

We work in close partnership with our suppliers to make sure they and their factories meet the most stringent requirements through product health, environment and customers’ safety.

SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

OCB works continuously to reduce its impact on the environment. We are doing everything possible to become greener and more respectful of the environment

SOURCED IN GERMANY AND SWEDEN

We follow strict guidelines to extract eco-friendly wood-pulp from sustainably-managed forests in Germany and Sweden according to ‘the track and trace process’.
OCB’s softwood pulp comes from Europe, specifically from Germany and Sweden, this last one a country in which over half the land is covered by forests. Also, the country is a world-leading wood processing industry is famed for its biodiversity and ecological safeguards.

SINCE ANCIENT EGYPT

Flax has been used to make paper since Ancient Egypt, it proved to be a great source for high quality paper. This plant originated in the Caucasus and is grown throughout Europe. It is annually growned and can reach the height of 1 metre. Its pale blue or purplish flowers bloom in spring. It has the advantage of growing without the need for fertilisers.

ORGANIC HEMP

The OCB hemp is grown in a sustainable farming process with farmers located in France where they transform straw into fibers. The fibers are extremely resistant and give the paper a very good strength with a very high thinness. The entire hemp fiber production process and its underlying way of understanding agriculture is sustainability. No part of the plant is discarded, everything is used, 100%. After the outer part of the stalk is removed, the surplus, referred to as flax shives, is used for different purposes.

SUSTAINABLE AND VERSATILE

Bamboo produces 35% more oxygen and absorbs twice as much carbon dioxide as trees. It is one of the most resilient plants to disease and weed. No harsh fertilizer, pesticides, or herbicides are needed to grow bamboo and it uses very little water compared to other plants. The bamboo roots remain in the ground where they expand, helping to prevent soil erosion, flooding, and extensive changes to the local ecosystem.

A TREE OF LIFE

OCB only uses acacia gum and guarantees that it is natural, vegan, GMO-free. We only work with suppliers that are involved in sustainable development in Africa. The acacia gum, also known as arabic gum, that we use for our rolling papers, is a natural secretion that flows from 2 species of acacia trees, Acacia Senegal and Acacia Seyal. Most of these trees grow naturally in the wild and are harvested by local farmers, who collect the sap that the tree secretes during the dry season without damaging the tree.

INSPIRED BY NATURE

Minimizing our impact on the environment is at the heart of our approach by developing more environmentally neutral products.

ALL WITH PAPER

At OCB we try to minimize the use of plastic and implement recyclable materials in our packing. We believe in the flexibility of paper so much that we try and eliminate plastic in all our processes. In addition, we don’t use any magnet in our booklets. Discover more at “Inside OCB” episodes where we explore our factories in Perpignan and Barcelona.

RECYCLED

Some OCB booklets are made of recycled cardboard and also, in our factories the best practice is zero paper waste. Whatever paper is unusable will go back into a bin and then back to the paper mill to be recycled back into more rolling paper.

VEGETABLE INKS

Our packs have been printed with vegetable inks for several years. Vegetable-based inks are made with vegetable oil, such as soybean or corn oil, as a substitute for petroleum.

OCB VIRGIN

Unbleached brown papers

JUST PAPER FILTERS

The future of filters
OCB is proud to offer rolling filters made of 100% paper, that are designed without plastic, meet the EN 14995 standard for biodegradability, and disintegrate in water (in particular seas and oceans). They are packaged in a recyclable paper bag, printed with vegetable inks.
